About Us

EIBCF was born out of a son's immense love for his beloved mother who passed away in March 2006 after being diagnosed with breast cancer.
Doctors believed that Mrs Elizabeth Ojo-Igbinoba had been living with the disease for about nine years before she was diagnosed and were certain that if detected earlier she would have had a greater chance of surviving.
Realising that his mother did not look well, Hubert did everything to get her to see a doctor but Elizabeth refused to accept that she could suffer from such a disease. Lots of African women believe breast cancer is for 'white ladies' or that it's a spiritual attack on the woman for her infidelity.
This is not the case. Early detection and treatment is the key. We have excellent facilities for the diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer however many women lack the understanding and awareness of the importance of detecting breast cancer in the early stages due to cultural beliefs and linguistic barriers.
In memory of his mother and to ensure that women in Australia (his home base) or anywhere in the world do not suffer from this disease, Hubert has established the Elizabeth Igbinoba Breast Cancer foundation. Hubert's vision is to save lives by empowering women to take the necessary steps and be aware of the first signs of breast cancer so they can receive treatment as early as possible.
